for how to make an interoperable MUA that offers a simple approach to
e-mail that defends against passive attackers.

The Sequoia project offers some Rust
support for Autocrypt wire format
objects,
so Meli could use that as a stepping stone to full Autocrypt support.

Thank you very much for your feature request. This is something I want in meli but unfortunately I don't have the bandwidth to work on this by myself. I'm open to working with contributors though that want to implement Autocrypt for meli.
